Baltimore, MD – Heavy Seas Beer announced today some exciting awards won by their Clipper Fleet line of beers. Competing internationally, Heavy Seas Gold Ale won the Gold medal in the Golden/Blonde Ale category at the 2010 World Beer Cup Competition. In addition, the Heavy Seas Märzen and Pale Ale were each awarded Bronze medals in their respective categories.
Heavy Seas Gold Ale placed 1st amongst 50 entries in the Golden or Blonde Ale category. Deep gold in color, it has floral and spicy hop aromas. It’s brewed with pale, caramel, and Munich malts, then balanced with Cascade, Centennial and Hersbrucker hops. This well rounded, fruity and complex ale is great with salads, mild cheeses and pulled pork BBQ.
Heavy Seas Märzen placed 3rd amongst 28 entries in the Vienna-Style Lager category. The Märzen has also medaled the last four consecutive years at the GABF since 2006. This traditional Oktoberfest-style lager is amber in color with a rich, toasty malt flavor and a slightly sweet finish. Heavy Seas Märzen pairs well with sausage, pizza and pit beef.
Heavy Seas Pale Ale placed 3rd amongst 29 entries in the Classic-English Style Pale Ale category. Amber in color, it has a nice earthy hop aroma. Distinctly British in character with a firm malt character and a crisp, angular hop finish. This is a great session beer which pairs well with burgers, chili and spicy foods.
“We are thrilled to have won a Gold Medal again. This is our second consecutive Gold Medal win at the World Beer Cup Competition”, said Hugh Sisson, founder and general partner of Clipper City Brewing Company. “To then take two additional Bronze medals is testament to the quality of beers we are making.
