Visiting the Brewery
- When are your brewery tours? Can I stop by any time?
Public brewery tours are held most Saturdays at 11:00, 12:30, 2:00 and 3:30. You can make reservations through our website; for special events or private tours please see below. Our gift shop is open weekdays 9:30 – 5:00 and you are welcome to stop in to browse our Heavy Seas merchandise!
- Where are you located? How far from Baltimore City are you?
We are located at 4615 Hollins Ferry Road, Suite B in Halethorpe, MD. The brewery is about a 12-minute drive from downtown Baltimore and the Inner Harbor, off exit 9 of I-695. The actual brewery is located in an industrial warehouse on your left. NOTE: if you are using GPS to find us, be sure to enter “Halethorpe” rather than “Baltimore,” or it will send you the wrong way on Hollins Ferry Road.
- Can I bring my child(ren) on a brewery tour?
Yes, although our facility and the tour tend to be geared towards adults; if you do bring your child please be sure s/he is closely supervised, and provided with drinks and/or snacks since we have no vending machines on the premises.
- Can the brewery accommodate strollers or wheelchairs?
Yes, most areas covered during the tour are easily accessible. We have a ramp out in front of the building and a wheelchair-friendly restroom.
- What happens during the brewery tour? How long does it take?
You should arrive 10-15 minutes before the tour you have made reservations for begins. The tour itself is free. If you are of legal drinking age, you may purchase a souvenir pint glasses for $5 which includes tokens for five 4-oz beer samples. Please keep in mind that you will be in an industrial warehouse so we suggest you dress appropriately (jackets during cold weather, and no high heels or open-toed shoes at any time). The tour host will lead you through the facility while describing the brewing and packaging processes. The speaking part of the tour takes about 30-35 minutes, with the rest of the time allotted for sampling.
- Can I buy more tokens after I’ve used all of mine?
Unfortunately, Maryland state law limits us to both the size of the samples and the amount permitted per guest, so we are not able to sell extra tokens or pints.
- Can I give you two or more tokens for a full beer?
Due to Maryland state law, we are unable to give you more than one 4-oz pour at a time.
- Your website says the brewery tour I want to attend is full. What can I do?
We try to accommodate everyone, but we do have limited space. We do receive cancellations for tours—typically on the week of the tour—so you can try calling the brewery to see if any spots have opened up. Larger groups should reserve spaces at least two weeks in advance.
- Do you have brewery tours during the week or on Sundays?
As a general rule, no. Occasionally we will offer special tours for Father’s Day & Brunch Tours. Be sure to sign up for our e-newsletter to be alerted to these special tours.
- Can I arrange for a private tour at the brewery?
We accommodate private tours for groups no larger than 40 people after business hours or after public tours when possible; for information on scheduling and pricing, please contact Kelly Zimmerman, at email@example.com, or Jenn Ladd, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Buying From the Brewery
- What are the brewery’s regular hours?
Our office is open during regular business hours, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Do you have a brewpub or restaurant? Do you have a “Happy Hour”?
We do not. We are strictly a manufacturing brewery and are licensed only as such by the State of Maryland. Our license prohibits us from selling beer by the glass, or allowing sampling other than during our public brewery tours which are held most Saturdays. Click here for dates, times and registration. If you are looking to sample a wide array of Heavy Seas beers in one place, we might suggest the Heavy Seas Alehouse, near Little Italy and Harbor East, in downtown Baltimore. Heavy Seas Alehouse is a licensed operation; we are not affiliated with the restaurant in any other way.
- Can I buy beer at the brewery?
Yes. Maryland state law permits us to sell up to one case of bottled beer per person after our public tours; however, we are not permitted to sell kegs directly from the brewery.
- Can I buy a growler or get one filled there?
At this time Maryland state law does not permit us to sell or fill growlers.
- Can I make reservations for the Heavy Seas Alehouse?
The Heavy Seas Alehouse is a different entity and is located at 1300 Bank Street in the Little Italy neighborhood of Baltimore City. You can reach them at 410-522-0850 or at heavyseasalehouse.com.
Finding Our Beers
- How can I find a bar or packaged goods store that sells Heavy Seas beer?
Check out the Heavy Seas BeerFinder to navigate your way to some of our suds!
- You don’t have a distributor in my area. Can you mail or ship beer directly to me?
We're sorry, but we can't. Maryland state law forbids us from shipping beer directly to consumers.
