bartenders & tour guides
The Heavy Seas Taproom is always accepting resumes for bartenders and tour guides. While we may not always be hiring, we are continually growing our Taproom, which requires more enthusiastic beer lovers to help us with our mission. Bartenders must be available afternoons, evenings and weekends, with Saturday and Sunday shifts required. Tour guides must be available on weekends. Knowledge and passion for craft beer preferred.

Job Summary
Heavy Seas Beer is a small business, and our brewers are involved in many aspects of the company including brewing, filtering, cleaning and lab work, as well as brewer events and other promotions. We are currently seeking an experienced brewer with 1-3 years of brewing experience.


General Accountabilities
Including, but not limited to:

  • Tank cleaning
  • ​Wort Production
  • Separation/Filtration
  • Dry-hopping
  • Cask building
  • Tank fining
  • Raw material inventory
  • Maintain company quality standards
  • Maintain brewery equipment.
  • The company reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
  • Work a variety of shifts on a rotating basis (first, second, third).

Credentials and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in food science, biotechnology, process engineering, organic chemistry, or another related field
  • Experience: 1-3 years of related experience
  • Brewing specific education preferred

Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Proficient knowledge of equipment used to prepare beer
  • High energy level and an attention to details
  • Optimistic, positive attitude
  • Ability to work as a part of a large team
  • Manual dexterity

Physical Conditions
Ability to handle different kinds of equipment like hoses, brewing vessels, carbonating machines and packaging machinery. Capacity to lift heavy sacks up to 55 lbs., maneuver 175 lbs., drag heavy hoses and perform other physically demanding duties.


Working Conditions
The work environment can be cold, wet, hot and noisy and may require work in enclosed spaces like brewing vessels and tanks.

​QA/QC Lab Technician

become one of the most respected and award winning craft breweries on the East Coast.
 
Job Summary
The QA/QC Lab Technician will be responsible for helping with tasks to execute quality
standards.  He/she will work under the supervision of the QA/QC Team Leader to perform day-
to-day analytical testing and quality checks to support the efficiency of the department.   Duties
may vary as necessary.
 
Position Requirements
Including, but not limited to:
  • Daily sample collection including aseptic sampling for microbiological analysis
  •  Chemical and physical analysis of in-process and finished product, including ABV, Extract, pH, BU, Color, VDK
  •  Package quality control, including dissolved O2, carbonation, fill level, crown crimp, can seam integrity, keg testing, and other packaging standards 
  • Sensory sample collection and participation in daily sensory panel organization
  • Sensory analysis of off flavors in beer
  • Communicating with brewery personnel and management regarding quality issues
  • Daily data entry and maintenance of QC spreadsheets including record keeping, trending, and data analysis
  • Performing PCR analysis and interpreting results
  • Performing and interpreting transmitted light microscopy of yeast and other samples
  • Preparing microbiological media, executing microbiological assays and interpreting the results
  • Assist with the maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Assist with maintaining a professional and clean lab
  • Work on ad hoc projects as needed on behalf of the quality department

Education and Experience
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in the biological or physical sciences
  • Experience: Prior laboratory experience beyond classroom instruction and an understanding of brewing, beer production and beer packaging would be an asset

Physical/Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods of time, as well as the ability to stand, move with agility and climb ladders
  • Work environment has a moderate to loud noise level (machinery noise typically found in a manufacturing and packaging work space)
  • Work environment can include areas that are wet and non-temperature controlled
  • Personal protective equipment, including nitrile gloves, safety glasses, safety toe footwear and face covering
  • Adherence to safety procedures
